He makes digital art, AI-assisted images, video, and mixed media.
Some of it is slop. Some of it isn't. The filter tags at the top tell you which is which —
or at least, what series it belongs to.
Artist Statement
My daughters asked me to take selfies. I gave them pictures of my hair.
That family joke became a continuing photographic
practice in 2014. I put my forehead at the edge of the frame and left room for the world around me:
highways, volleyball teams, galleries, the morning sky before work.
Later, I restricted a series to Amazon fulfillment-center parking lots before
and after my shifts. The constraint made me pay attention to a place I might otherwise hurry through.
Working life supplies both my subjects and my method: look closely, use what is available, and let humor
carry something difficult.
Working as MikeHiByeOK, I combine photography, digital composition, AI-assisted
imagery, and comics. My photographs locate an actual encounter. My constructed images turn breakfast
cereal, road trips, bills, and family jokes into scenes where pleasure, recognition, and frustration meet.
I identify AI assistance because viewers deserve to understand how an image was made.
Across these forms, I look for an accessible point of entry: a joke, a
recognizable object, a shared inconvenience. Attention to people moving through everyday places informs
my interest in public art. I want the work to reward attention without requiring specialist knowledge,
while leaving viewers room to reach their own conclusions.
Google Street View Remix — Detroit × Megève
I use Google Street View as both archive and canvas, remixing Detroit and
Megève with my own imagery and with echoes pulled from museums, memory, and the subconscious. These
digital street remixes let hidden art — personal, cultural, or institutional — slip back into public
space. It's my way of putting art where people actually live, move, and look.
